Introduction: Noah’s story is a type of our lives today. We can learn from his ordeal and prepare for the destruction to come. In this lesson we will see why his world was judged and why he was delivered.

1. During Noah’s life, the earth was young, not even two thousand years old. What did the inhabitants of the young earth begin to do? What does “all of which they chose” mean? How does this phrase relate to sexual relationships today? Genesis 6:1, 2, 4.
Genesis 6:6 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,
Genesis 6:2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
Genesis 6:4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
2. Who noticed all of their wives? Was he pleased? What limit did the Creator place on man’s life? v 3.
Genesis 6:3 And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
3. Obviously these were not sins in a secret place. The Creator sees all: nothing is hidden from Him. What do the phrases “every imagination” and “evil continually” mean? Genesis 6:5. A craftsman delights in his handiwork. When his work is flawed, he destroy it and starts over. God’s creation had degraded. What were His plans for it?
How does the world of Noah’s day compare to today’s world? Genesis 6:6, 11, 12, 7, 13, Luke 17:(20-30), 20, 26-29
Genesis 6:5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
Genesis 6:6 And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
Genesis 6:7 And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
Genesis 6:11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.
Genesis 6:12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.
Genesis 6:13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
Luke 17:20 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:
Luke 17:21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
Luke 17:22 And he said unto the disciples, The days will come, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and ye shall not see it.
Luke 17:23 And they shall say to you, See here; or, see there: go not after them, nor follow them.
Luke 17:24 For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day.
Luke 17:25 But first must he suffer many things, and be rejected of this generation.
Luke 17:26 And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.
Luke 17:27 They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.
Luke 17:28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;
Luke 17:29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.
Luke 17:30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.
4. Was there anything or anyone that was worth saving? In our world, is there anyone worth saving? Genesis 6:8, 9, (10), Revelation 22:14.
Genesis 6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.
Genesis 6:9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.
Genesis 6:10 And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
Revelation 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
5. What commandment did God give Noah? Do you think the commandment seemed reasonable to Noah’s neighbors? Was the commandment for Noah’s good? (Are the Ten Commandments for our best? What do our neighbors think of them?) v 14-16.
Genesis 6:14 Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.
Genesis 6:15 And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.
Genesis 6:16 A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it.
6. How would God correct His creation that had become corrupt? What tool would He use to destroy Noah’s world? What tool will He use to destroy this world? Genesis 6:17, 2 Peter 3:10.
Genesis 6:17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.
2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
7. What type of agreement does God have with those that keep His commandments? How strong is this agreement? (What would Noah inherit after the flood? What will we inherit after the big hot fire?) Genesis 6:18, (19-21), 18a.
Genesis 6:18 But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee.
Genesis 6:19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female.
Genesis 6:20 Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive.
Genesis 6:21 And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them.
8. How much of God’s commandment did Noah obey? Did Noah build half a boat? Could he have left off the front half or the back half? How many commandments do we keep? Can we leave one out? v 22.
Genesis 6:22 Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.
Conclusion: Noah kept God’s commandment. Only one is given: the commandment to build the ark. But we know that he would have kept at least ten others: the ten that we all must keep. When we keep the Ten Commandments, we are building our deliverance for the future. We will be lifted above the earth, while the earth suffers plagues and eventually complete destruction by fire.
