HOW DO WE KNOW FOR CERTAIN THAT JESUS CHRIST IS THE SON OF GOD?

Introduction: Anyone can claim to be divine. Anyone can claim to be a messiah. Other religions have divinities, prophets, and messiahs. We have one chance in this life to choose the correct saviour. How do we know for certain that Jesus Christ is the Son of God?
1. What did Satan want Jesus to prove? Matthew 4:1-7.
Matthew 4:1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
Matthew 4:2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
Matthew 4:3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Matthew 4:5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
Matthew 4:6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
Matthew 4:7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
2. The high priest needed to know if this man was the Son of God. How passionate was he to know the answer to this question? Matthew 26:62, 63.
Matthew 26:62 And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
Matthew 26:63 But Jesus held his peace, And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.
Note: The high priest “arose” and said, “I adjure thee. . . .tell us.” Adjure means to beg or command.
3. Earthquakes don’t happen every day. Who was convinced by an earthquake at His death? Matthew 27:54.
Matthew 27:54 Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.
4. If someone was not convinced by the first earthquake, should they be convinced by the second? Who was not convinced by an earthquake at His resurrection? Matthew 28:2, 4, 11-15.
Matthew 28:2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
Matthew 28:4 And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.
Matthew 28:11 Now when they were going, behold, some of the watch came into the city, and shewed unto the chief priests all the things that were done.
Matthew 28:12 And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers,
Matthew 28:13 Saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept.
Matthew 28:14 And if this come to the governor's ears, we will persuade him, and secure you.
Matthew 28:15 So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.
5. How did Jesus prove to one man that He was? John 9:1, 6, 7, 35-37.
John 9:1 And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.
John 9:6 When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,
John 9:7 And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.
John 9:35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?
John 9:36 He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?
John 9:37 And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee.
6. Did this man accept Jesus by this miraculous deed? v 38.
John 9:38 And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.
7. What very unusual event happened early one morning? Matthew 14:24, 25.
Matthew 14:24 But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.
Matthew 14:25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.
8. The twelve disciples had never seen such a thing before. What did they think? v 26.
Matthew 14:26 And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.
9. Did they have anything to fear? v 27.
Matthew 14:27 But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
10. Was this a stunt for any mortal man? v 28-31.
Matthew 14:28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
Matthew 14:29 And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
Matthew 14:30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
Matthew 14:31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
11. Walking on water is but one miracle. What else happened? v 32.
Matthew 14:32 And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.
12. After seeing Jesus walk on water and calm the wind, what did the other eleven (including Judas Iscariot) proclaim? v 33.
Matthew 14:33 Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.
13. How do we know for certain that Jesus Christ is the Son of God? Romans 1:4.
Romans 1:4 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:
Conclusion: Jesus did many miracles that are listed in the gospels. He did many more that are not listed in the gospels. All of the miracles performed by Jesus prove that He was the Son of God. Of course the most important of all is that he was publicly crucified, was certainly dead, and was resurrected.
